Earlier today, Nashville singer/songwriter Derik Hultquist dropped by the WSBF FM Clemson studio for an afternoon Live Session. His voice was soft and subtle, barely drifting through my car speakers. I was so impressed that I drove straight to the station (of which I’m a staff member) and bought a copy of his album, anthologies, on the spot. I highly recommend checking out the archive of his set at the WSBF website.
After his gig in DC last night fell through, Hultquist spent the night in Richmond, VA, and drove to Clemson en route to his show tonight at the Midnight Rooster in Hartsville. If you’re from the area, you’d probably know that The Midnight Rooster is the coolest place around. I’ve been there for coffee a few times, a tradition whenever I would visit a friend of mine who went to the Governor’s School down the road.
Hultquist’s intimate tracks will be perfect for the warm and cozy coffeeshop. The show starts at 8:30. No cover. It’s free. Really. If you’re into folk and/or you’re within 30 minutes’ drive, what are you waiting for?
