No I’m not going Dr. Phil on You
As a fan it is really hard to see some of your favorite local bands hang it up. I have the unique oppurtunity to write from both perspectives. I have been in several bands that fell apart and while it did sometimes turn my life in different directions some good things have come out of it. First off Marry a Thief would have a different drummer if my last band hadn’t have broken up. Stella By Starlight wouldn’t have won MTVU’s best band on campus had my high school garage band not have broken up. We wouldn’t have had Baumer had Tigerbot Hesh not broken up. We wouldn’t have had Baumer had Bravada/Doc Sommers Band not broken up. We wouldn’t have had Baumer had Courage Riley not broken up.
You get where I am going with this and if you beg me I might even build a tree of where the bands in SC came from. Wow that would be awesome. Trace AGO back to Firefly Summer, track American Gun back to Betty Sneetch/Capital/Boxing Day/Lochness Johnny and so on.
Hello Tomorrow are young and were built of good musicians with a great sense of melody and they all have bright futures in front of them.
Baumer was built with some of Columbia’s best musicians. These guys are way to good of musicians to just stop playing music.
Though it never makes me happy to see bands break up, I am looking at this as a fresh start for everyone. There are now 8 or 9 great musicians on the market that are going to start new bands and solo projects and hopefully start a band that will break the music scene wide open. You know if you wouldn’t have broken up with that one girl you would have never met your wife.
PS I was at the farewell show for Doc Sommers/Bravada and it was one of the top shows I have ever been to at New Brookland Tavern. That being said you aren’t going to want to miss Baumer’s farewell show November 7th. It will be one for the books.
