When I ask people about Twitter they usually fall into two camps. The first camp says “Gah Twitter is dumb” and then about two weeks later will join anyway. The other camp talks about how cool it is and how it has made the world a better place. Like most things, neither camp is really accurate but the one thing I can say about Twitter is it is a cool way to keep up with your favorite local bands. In case you aren’t in the know Twitter is a place where you can post little status messages that are then seen by everyone who follows you. For local bands, it gives them a unique way to communicate (should they choose to use it).
Since it can be a pain to try and find people on Twitter, I thought it might be helpful to provide some “Twitter guidance” to your favorite local bands and how good they are at this:
Allison Weiss – We all know by now that David has a crush on Allison, but there is no better way to kick off this list than with her Twittering madness. All local bands could learn to use Twitter like she has, and it’s fun to see what shows up next.
The Private Life of David Reed – David earns points for the sheer amount of updates. If you are a fan of his music then you will certainly enjoy his Twitterness.
Marry a Thief – They started out strong but like many bands they seem to have faded down the Twitter stretch. We can only hope for an epic resurgence of F word usage.
American Gun – They are new to the Twitter action so there is no way to judge yet. They did reply to a SceneSC tweet which of course results in cool points.
The Decade – These guys have become Twitterin’ fools with all the new stuff they have coming out, definitely worth it for easy updates on their whereabouts.
Treadmill Trackstar – A solid Twitter for sure, especially if you want to hear what alchohol and meds Angelo is taking before the vocal tracks.
The Restoration – Daniel mainly updates on the important things. Personally I would prefer more anecdotes about what is going on in the 1800’s.
The Fire Tonight – We do the Twitter thing, sometime updating from shows too. I like to post something stupid at least once a day.
So there’s a pretty good, if likely incomplete, rundown of people you should check out! To round the list out here are a few of my own personal favorites:
BS Folds – While the real Ben Folds twitter is also fun to follow, this parody is also spectacular.
Cobra Commander - – Yes the real Cobra Commander from GI Joe. Hilarious.
The Onion – Who doesn’t love the Onion?
So there you go Twitter fans and nOObz (is that what the nerd kids say?). If you are a local or regional band and you want on the list just say so in the comments and I’ll throw it on up thar.
I have a crush on her Marketing Genius. This is no lie.
Hooray for twatting! lawlz
