I’m mostly going to link to my Columbia music friends in this post, because they did a great job of previewing the many shows that are happening this weekend.
I picked a busy week in music not to have internet and to be really busy at work. I would have liked to have written more about these bands, most of which I have dedicated space to in the past. We have a lot of news coming out on the website in the next few days so stay tuned this memorial day weekend.
Friday-Tonight at Red Bank United Methodist Church Ellie LaVeer and Hannah Miller an Intimate setting perfect for a singer-songwriter.
Can’t wait for the new Hannah Miller EP to come out.
Saturday
Rhythm on the River this Saturday will showcase some of Columbia’s young singer-songwriters, including Erich Skelton of Marry a Thief, Charlie Jackson of Aviary Fire and Versus the Robot, Cayla Fralick and new Srsly Records artist Cherry Case.
I’m pretty sure that after this show, a good part of the crowd will head over to New Brookland Tavern to hear Nick Bays, Answer Me This and The Brisbones. Both of the out of town bands on this show are outstanding also. Farewell Flight has a big following in the Columbia area, including Cayla Fralick who I saw at their last show here. I checked out Lorien for the first time a couple of weeks ago and the Nashville band will surely make some new fans as they will play in front of a perfect crowd for their type of music.
The late night show will be at Art Bar where Twilight Armada, Shallow Palace, Junior Astronomers, CO will be rocking Columbia. KO or CO? Same band? Not sure, but I’m really excited to see Junior Astronomers for the first time and Twilight Armada and Shallow Palace again.
Sunday
Sometimes when local bands break up it really sucks at first and then they go on to form other bands that are awesome too. This isn’t to say that Calculator wouldn’t still be around if The Devil and The Lion didn’t break up.
This Sunday Calculator will bring their fresh style of college-indie rock to New Brookland Tavern. Calculator is what happens when talented local musicians with open minds come together. This is a band that you definitley do not want to miss.
VISTA POP FESTIVAL – A Tribute to West Palm Beach ’69
Bentz Kirby is at it again and this Sunday at Art Bar he will be a part of the Tribute to West Palm Beach in 69′, but this time Alien Carnival will be covering The Rolling Stones. We will see a mix of Roger Daltrey and Mick Jagger. I can’t wait to witness this.
