Finlay Park
The Almost, This Providence, Anarbor, & The Dares
930 Laurel St, Columbia, South Carolina 29201
Cost: N/A
Other than the Summer Concert Series every Saturday, Finlay Park hasn’t been seeing the same concert action it has in the past 10 years. Between 2003 and 2006 Jimmy Eat World, Rooney, Hoobastank, Incubus and a handful of other bands stopped by the park to play Fall Out and other events, but recently there haven’t been other shows there.
This might be a sign of change though. On Saturday, September 26, The Almost, This Providence, Anabor, The Dares and Sent By Ravens will all play Finlay Park.
As of right now, I’m not sure who is organizing this show, but I was a little shocked when I first heard this. I’ve seen 3 of these bands before and I’m not sure they have what it takes to make a buck playing at Finlay Park. Unless of course tax payer dollars are involved. Not that I’m not happy to see this show there, but being realistic the overhead is really high there and these bands won’t draw more than 400 people. Unless you count the homeless people in Finlay Park. Or if it is free. Or if they let you pull up your cars into the park and tailgate. In one of those cases they might draw over 400.
I would really love to see Fall Out or Three Rivers Music Fest come back, but if they aren’t going to make a profit for the city, no one has any business throwing away money on concerts when we can barely keep our bus system running.
Update that to this Holypalooza
Here’s the line up dudes and dudettes, and some other details (forgive me if you are already familiar with some of the more well known acts, but just in case some info anyway):

2) ADVIKIT (Prophetic gospel rap)
3) the Undivided (Tony Byroad’s band formerly of Crossfade)
4) INGLORIOUS (formerly FLYNN) from Spartenburg/Greenville

8) Inhale/Exhale (Ohio screamo band with Chariot-esque influences/drummer “Gator” from Columbia, used to work at Blue Tile Skate Shop and I believe said he used to let Jake from August Burns Red sleep on his couch or they roomed together few years ago and before Jake moved to Lancaster PA to hook up with ABR)
9) This Providence (Van Warped tour this year/Indie Pop Rock band, very popular as of late)
10) THE ALMOST (Aaron Gillespie’s side project vocals and guitar/he’s the drummer for massive band UNDER OATH. Aaron frequents Lexington, SC and sells out NBT every time)

Cool that means I can scratch that part about taxpayers. This will also help with the draw.
