Friday March 19
New Brookland Tavern
9pm
There hasn’t always been a lot of excitement around Dave Bazan’s shows at New Brookland Tavern. At his first solo show at NBT, he came equipped with a battery-powered amp and only about 30 people in the crowd.  We’ll chalk that up to a transitional period before his solo career took off after Pedro the Lion, because the three Pedro shows in 2002 and 2004 were slammed. Yeah that was a long time ago.
Bazan is a veteran that has made somewhat of a comeback recently among the “beard-indie” crowd. While his material has never really faltered, his fan base has gone in and out, minus a small group of dedicated, unwavering fans. So really, not much has changed over the last 10 years. Mr. Bazan is still playing New Brookland Tavern, The Drunken Unicorn in Atlanta and The Grey Eagle in Asheville. Another thing that hasn’t changed is that his fan base seems to be staying the same age. His songs about God and doubt easily connect with a 19 year old as they do a 35 year old. One thing is for sure though, he won’t be playing for 30 people anymore…unless it’s one of his house shows.
