Toro Y Moi-Leave Everywhere
Â
I swear I’ve never seen any artist labeled as much as Toro Y Moi. We’ve had fun with it too though calling him the prince of lappop or deskpop or whatever. It’s fun and it’s silly, but it really doesn’t do what Chaz is doing justice.
Sometimes I feel like the only person that really understands his musical endeavors are Pat Wall, and he has covered Chaz’s rise better than anyone else.
And now that all these blogs have labeled him as the “Carolina Chillwave King” and talk about his spaced out electronic bedroom pop sound, he turns another corner and puts out a lofi retro single, that has the potential to regroup Toro Y Moi with Surfer Blood and other “washed out” jangly pop sounding bands.
So just enjoy the music of Toro Y Moi as it progresses and try not to label it. Or just label it as good music. From indie rock, to folk, to electronic and now to retro pop, Chaz is proving he can do it all.
