Coma Cinema/Venice is Sinking/Calculator
One of Columbia’s best kept secrets, Coma Cinema will join Calculator and Venice is Sinking this Saturday night at Art Bar. Coma Cinema has a new album coming out June 1 titled Stoned Alone, but for now you can download their album from last year Baby Prayers free on their website. Sadly I haven’t seen them live yet. I tried to see them at the Indie Grits party, but arrived late. CC is perfect cloudy day chill out music, let’s call it “hang-out wave” or “Chill Groove.”

Venice is Sinking is from Athens, but they are no strangers to Columbia. Two years ago they were one of the main bands on the outdoor stage at the Free Times Music Crawl and have visited New Brookland Tavern a time or two. One of those times we took the sweet video below. It’s the entire set.

Calculator is unveiling their 4th unique line up this Saturday night and also debuting 5 new tunes. So if you got to know their first or second EP, they probably won’t be playing many of those songs. The rapidly evolving band now features Grayson Ventors(The Devil and The Lion) on guitar. If Matt Bundrick were still playing drums then 3/4 of the band would have been members of The Devil and the Lion, which violates SC Band Code 2.22 “No more than 50 percent of a defunct band shall perform under a new name.” Oh whoops, they were already violating the 3/4 rule, but are now in the clear.

You’re welcome, now we’re in the clear.
There is another by law about playing in two active bands, but I can’t find that one in the books right now…
oops, didn’t even think about that one…
