One man was killed and two injured in a shooting outside of The Money in Rock Hill, SC last night in an attempted robbery of the band Parmalee.
The Charlotte Observer is reporting that two armed men forced entry into the bands RV after the show. When a band member drew a weapon and demanded that the men leave, both sides began shooting and three people were struck.
The Money is a popular venue for many South Carolina bands, and is one of the only places to play in Rock Hill. It is also notoriously unsafe.
The Money is located at 110 South Cherry Road, directly across the street from Winthrop University.
Dave-
Are these some of your drinking buddies? Besides looking like the kind of guys you would hang out with, and the fact that like you, they are probably biased against Dance Commander, you are wrting about them. I thought it was a prerequisite to be your drinking buddy to get written about here?
Good thing these aren’t my drinking buddies, or I would be dead right now. Just kidding, you know I’m always packing heat. I would have blown these guys face off for looking at me funny.
One of Parmalee’s songs says “She left heaven for San Diego” I feel that even more today.
This is terrible news. Did a band member or an attacker die? I’ve never heard of this band but they will be in our thoughts today. In other news, we will not be playing @ the money any time soon/never again.
attacker died. they found another suspect unconcious in the parking lot. i dont know what kind of shape the band member is in.
being from Rock Hill, The Money is like home to us. Isaac Spivey and the guys that work with him, like Pete, are great fellas and only have SC music in mind. Keep them in your prayers(along with Parmalee) cause as you can imagine they are very shaken up about this whole thing. The Money is no more dangerous than any other dive bar you might find local music at, in fact it’s right across from the Winthrop Univeristy Campus, please do not let this one horrible incedent ruin the image of such a great venue
The Money/Silver Dollar parking lot has always been known for being a dangerous place to be.
I can’t track down how many shootings have happened there, but I feel like at least one a year on average.
Even when I was in high school in Rock Hill, we all knew it was shady.
Either way, you’re still safe going and playing there, just be careful as you always should.
I’m disappointed in your journalism here. There are many incorrect facts listed, and this article’s assertion that The Money is “Notoriously Unsafe” is ridiculous. The McDonald’s next to it is host to a hundred times more crimes than the bar, and so is adjacent Winthrop University. The bar itself has had only TWO crimes occur in the past year, one of which was a noise violation and the other a shouting match between bands in the parking lot (no blows were thrown). The Parmalee incident was NOT on The Money’s property, just FYI, and it is unfair of the media to blame the bar for this occurrence. If the guys had parked their camper at a campground instead of in a parking lot, this would not have happened.
Not only that, but the new management has beefed up security tenfold with infrared security cameras and more staff.
The silver lining out of all of this is that Parmalee has raised a ton of money through their 501(c)(3) charity for Scott Thomas’s medical bills AND they have gotten a record deal as a result of the national attention generated by this unfortunate circumstance.
Shame on you, SceneSC. Don’t blame The Money for this incident and drag its name through the mud when you are misinformed about the situation. The Money is a safe place to play and to party, even more so now.
I hung @ the Money for several years; notoriously unsafe? It was a rough crowd in there. Dennis George stabbed someone to death in there. Gigi George (his brother) owned it @ that point in time. I had some cunt hit me in the face w\ a beer bottle because I wouldn’t come on to her flirtation. is that notoriously unsafe? Relatively, I guess.
Just saw this…I partied there in 1979-80. If was called DADDY’S MONEY then, and my jershey-shirt had the car and female logo. It’s sad this has become an unsafe area…NOTHING LASTS FOREVER! I was a senior in high school, having moved from Ohio. I had AWESOME times there, and so did my friends. I see it’s closed for good…So much for visiting and reminiscing. Bobbi and I met some incredible guys there, drank, got drunk, danced and laughed night after night, week after week, month after month…
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES!!!
