This show was definitely in the top 3 shows that I have been to in Columbia and I hope that we can get more shows like this. Every single band were absolutely solid and perfect for this type of show and venue. This show took place at El Burrito on the most beautiful of Sunday nights. Everyone there was pleased to be there, everyone was getting along, and the bands were amazing.
Young Mumbles started the show in the manger-like stage setup and absolutely killed it. The mixture of Trey Murphy and Delaney Mills‘ vocals sounded extremely professional. By this I mean that their voices fit so well with one another that it seemed like they’d been practicing these harmonies for years. Their set was the perfect way to start off the show as it was energetic enough to get people excited but was chill enough to maintain the vibe of this show. I am looking forward to their future shows and I hope they’re around for a long time.
Dylan Dickerson. In the show preview I called him a local hero and this show completely solidified that fact. He played an amazing sounding guitar while singing and playing a bass drum and high-hat with his feet. Now this was impressive, but more impressive was his voice. I had seen Dylan perform a while ago with Old Canoe but it was a house show with not amazing sound so I didn’t really hear the lengths that his voice could go. El Burrito’s were definitely on top of their sound, and hearing Dylan’s voice in full force was way too great. His voice is kind of similar to The Tallest Man On Earth but I only say this because they both strain their voices to the fullest extent. The whole time that he was playing, I was thinking that I could see him going on tour all over the US and just impressing the hell out of everyone else.
Up next were Milagres. I had only listened to one of their songs which they actually started the set with. At first they had an Arcade Fire/Tokyo Police Club-vibe but then they definitely came out with their own unique, awesome sound. They are a band who seem to be getting a lot of hype lately and they well deserve it. Some people at the show even said that they were better than the headliner Peter Wolf Crier (which I would have to respectfully disagree with). But they did handle their instruments extremely well and maintained a sound that provoked all the people at the show to check out their music afterwards.
The headliners Peter Wolf Crier were a three-piece band but they created a huge sound that could have been made by 7 or 8 people. Their drummer was at the front of the stage along with the frontman Peter Pisano and he was fantastic. I think to have the drummer featured at the front of the stage means that they have to be good, and this guy was ridiculous. He never stopped and he pretty much controlled the show with his drumming. BUT Pisano was also great, using loops and a guitar + organ combo that greatly supplemented his brilliant voice. If you missed the show and ever get a chance to see them, please go. This was a show that was successfully booked by Rhett Talbert and Dylan Dickerson and I hope that Columbia sees a lot more shows like this.
