How would you describe your sound to someone that has never heard your band?
Pretty much the definition of Rock and Roll. A mixture of country, rhythm and blues.
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
This is gonna sound weird, but I think I am very influenced in the way that I sing by female vocalists. I think in general they are much more true to their emotions when they sing. I love Aretha and Lucinda, and of course Jill Andrews (marry me please). I am a songwriter guy too, so I love artists like Josh Ritter, Paul Simon, Neil Young, but I also love some bands just for the sheer boldness of their sound. If you are doing something bold ( like many bands in the Music Crawl), I’m in! I should say that I discovered rock and roll because of Pearl Jam.
What other bands are you excited about seeing at Music Crawl?
I just saw the schedule for the Crawl, and realized we are in the same building with Junior Astronomers (bold as shit)! I love that band. We are going miss some of my other favorite bands sets because of set times, but hopefully we can run around and catch as much as possible. I would really like to catch Hammer No More the Fingers, if possible. Of course, I would never miss The Magnetic Flowers.
What are you most excited about for the future of your band?
Touring is number one in my mind. I really want to hit the road in a bad way. Also, making more records. We are finishing writing the rest of our current project, “Salt in the Wound, Flesh on the Bone”, and though I think these songs are great, I am really looking forward to seeing if we can have more of a collaborative writing process as we move forward. It might be the end of us, but I think if we can get there, we can do something that is undeniably great.
