Coming at you on February 21 is another good mid-week show at New Brookland Tavern, as a couple of great pop-punk/rock bands get together. I Anthem will be joining Versus the Robot! to bring you a night of great local music. Versus the Robot! has been around for a number of years here in Columbia, SC. If you’re from Columbia and listen to music you probably know, or at least have heard VTR frontman Charlie Jackson. Jackson has been around the local music scene for as long as I can remember, playing in such bands as Aviary Fire and Amen.the Animal (now called Life on Repeat). Throughout the changing bands, Jackson’s solo project Versus the Robot! held true. Now Jackson has turned the solo project into a full-fledged band by adding local musicians Jordan Spanske and Brandon Hollyday. With the additions, VTR has something special going, cranking out one good pop/punk song after another. You can download their latest EP for FREE at their bandcamp.
Joining VTR is I Anthem, a rock band from Florence, SC. I was recently introduced to I Anthem after I met frontman Tyler Edwards locally. I don’t know how I had never heard of them, but I was definitely missing out. This show is the start of a mini-tour that will take them all the way up to NYC, and then ends in Greenville at The Channel on March 2. Their sound can best be described as pure guitar-driven rock with religious undertone’s in the vocals. I was particularly impressed with the song “Revolutionary Heart“, which can be heard by clicking the link.  If you are a fan of Anberlin, you are going to love these guys. On Wednesday, they released a new single called “Lonely Soul” that you can get free. (http://noisetrade.com/ianthem)
Another Florence-based band, Kings Last Shot, will be opening with local band City Alive. If you are a current pop/punk/rock fan, or even just a fan of good music, you need to be at this show.
