The Explorer’s Club w/ SUNBEARS! and Gringo Star   The Pour House, Charleston, SC
Friday, March 2   Doors 9pm   $6 cover
After releasing an album on Dead Oceans, hearing some of their songs being on The O.C. and How I Met Your Mother, and touring all over the US, The Explorers Club have released a new album Grand Hotel on Rock Ridge Music. Friday’s show is a special album release show featuring two other brilliant artists while bringing the band back to their hometown of Charleston, SC. Their new album Grand Hotel was produced by Mark Linett, who engineered The Beach Boys’ SMiLE, and there is an obvious likeness to The Beach Boys that can be heard when listening to this album. It’s a long album, 15 songs, but all of them are just fantastic. They have a great big live band that will definitely do justice to these classic tunes. These guys are something special and should definitely be received by a loving, big crowd tomorrow night.
The openers SUNBEARS! are a band that I’m very excited to see. I missed them in Columbia back in November and I heard it was a great show. They sound similar to Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and make some very fun-loving, happy music. I have never listened to first opener Gringo Star but I have heard good things.
If you want to head to Charleston for the first day of spring break, or are already in Charleston, you should probably come to this show. The venue’s cool, the bands are great, get on it. TICKETS
