This Wednesday, March 14, Moe Joe Coffee in Clemson will play host to two Carolina bands, Mandolin Orange and The Restoration, that play music reaped from the region’s rich musical soil.
Mandolin Orange, an americana/folk duo from Chapel Hill, recently released a double LP titled Haste Make / Hard Hearted Stranger, whose deep lyrical cuts and threads of understated harmony weave honest, emotional tracks throughout. In support of their sophomore release, the group will spend the spring touring the East Coast, with upcoming dates in Atlanta, Brooklyn and everywhere in between.
I first saw The Restoration play at a small venue in Charlotte in early 2011, where their passionate style of playing filled the entire room. They were equally as encompassing at the outdoor WSBF Spring Festival last April.
Hailing from Lexington, SC, The Restoration crafts songs with an eye to the future and the past. Their modern melodies serve to vitalize lyrical narratives mired in historical themes of love and war. “You Know What To Do,” their first new track since 2010, was released earlier this month on the 2012 Scene SC Sampler.
The intimate café setting of Moe Joe should complement Mandolin Orange’s porch swing ambience, as well as the southern orchestra instrumentation of The Restoration.
