Now in its’ 7th year, Christmas at Redbank has become one of the premiere Christmas concerts in the midlands featuring a host of local musicians. The concert, hosted by veteran music critic Kevin Oliver at Redbank United Methodist Church in Lexington, SC, has transitioned over the years into a fundraiser for Lexington Interfaith Community Services. While the concert is free, the offering plates are passed around, having raised over $7,000 for LICSSC over the past 5 years.
This years lineup features some new faces along with some seasoned veterans. Newcomers include Prettier Than Matt, Right to Fall, Jeremy Scott, and the folk stylings of Post Timey String Band. Notable veterans include Bentz Kirby, who recently had a health scare, but has recovered in time to continue his streak as the only musician to play all Christmas at Redbank concerts. While there is no real headliner, The Sea Wolf Mutiny will be playing last, bringing a full band experience to the stage along with an original Christmas song that will transition into something more familiar to listeners.
While this years concert doesn’t feature big names of years past like Mark Bryan of Hootie and The Blowfish or Sarah Lee Guthrie, the event itself has become the draw. Christmas at Redbank has become a staple of the holiday season, and a pride performance for all the musicians involved.
