Christian metal bands As I Lay Dying and The Devil Wears Prada have joined forces for the “Marathon Metalcore Tour,” and are stopping in Charleston with support from For Today and The Chariot. Each group released an album in the past couple of years–AILD’s Awakened dropped in September of 2012 and TDWP’s newest album, whose title has yet to be released, is set to come out later this year. Not only do they both fall under the “Christian metalcore” genre, they both derived their names (and absolutely nothing else) from popular book titles.
Any self-respecting preteen in the first decade of the millennium owned a couple of t-shirts of either As I Lay Dying or, in my case, The Devil Wears Prada. Back in my day, being a Christian was cool, and so was being a fan of thrash metal, so if someone was a fan of Christian metal, they had the reputation of a legitimate badass. I honestly don’t remember what exactly drew me to them back in the day, but I know what has motivated me to keep up with them–nostalgia. Whether you want to relive your not-so-glory days or you just have a hankering to rage and kick some faces in, Music Farm is where you’re meant to be this Thursday night.
