At some point in the history of SceneSC a beautiful friendship between Matt Little and Josh Branham of Minor Miracles developed. It has a lot to do with Beezers sandwiches, late nights, and twitter…but don’t all great modern friendships? In addition to playing in Commerce and Minor Miracles, Little runs Littlest Sounds, which over the years included a ton of SC bands on the monthly compilations albums he curated. You may remember us posting about them in the past. So obviously, when Little and Branham had a new band I was more than excited to hear it. Minor Miracles doesn’t disappoint.
The story of this EP is unique and special. The band is centered around freelance artist Mike Lowery who set up his studio in a 500-year-old house in rural Völksen, Germany. Also the house his wife grew up in, the house was so dark it wasn’t conducive to his drawing, so he began playing around on an acoustic guitar and a neighbors old drum machine.
Fast forward to Atlanta, GA and the introduction of Josh Branham, Mark Priddy, and Matt Little to the project. What started out as a project with electronic drums slowly transitioned to live drumming and a band forming.
The EP, mixed and engineered by Dylan Seals and mastered by TW Walsh, grooves at its own pace, relying on melodic hooks while staying relaxed throughout. Lowery’s low sleepy voice meshes wonderfully with the cheery guitar leads and bouncing drums.
