Live at Sharky’s in Columbia, SC Saturday August 15
New Album out September 2
1) Describe your music for those who aren’t familiar.
Zoot Krew is a Pop/Hip Hop duo with a southern twang and also a west coast swag. Lyrically over the top, Matthew Morgan delivers an Adam Levine like voice combined with Columbia Hip Hop Icon Big Cheeze’s poetic craft. Together the two have created their own brand and persona that diversifies them from the game.
2) Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Big Cheeze: J Cole, Rittz, Biggie Smalls and 2 Chainz.
Matthew Morgan: Adam Levine, Elvis Presley, The Neighbourhood, Two Door Cinema Club and Vampire Weekend.
3) What are some of your favorite parts about the Cola music scene ? What are some things that you wish you could change about it?
Columbia, South Carolina is well known for talent in all genres. It’s a small city so it’s easy to get recognized. However, it’s difficult to gain respect because everyone wants to be a musician. It’s great to see music of such a high caliber being produced locally.
Shout out to Juice “Quantum Beats”
4) How did your group get started?
Matthew Morgan: I was traveling a lot the past couple of years visiting places such as Los Angeles, CA and New York to try to get my foot in the door with bigger names in music industry. After leaving California, I started recording at Quantum Beats and was creating some really experimental jams. I met Big Cheeze through Quantum Beats while he was recording one of his singles and we thought it’d be cool to cut a record with Hop Hop and Pop. A couple days passed and we recorded our first single, “Paper Chasing Predator.” After hearing the final product Cheeze and I decided to start on our album, “Nostalgia” to be released September 2nd, 2013.
Big Cheeze: It was destiny.
5) What are you most excited about for the future of your band?
The progress.
6) If you could change one thing about the music industry what would it be?
Creative control is one of the most important things to creating a masterpiece.
7) Who are some of your favorite South Carolina or Regional bands to play with? What band do you think your fans should check out?
Skywalker an affiliate of Zoot Krew and Gang Green General who opened up for Juicy J and also Speaker Knockerz. Check out those cats for real.
