Fashionably Late to Sylvan Esso

I feel like I’m late to the Sylvan Esso party, about 7,000 Soundcloud plays late according to my expert calculations. Sylvan Esso is a collaborative duo made up of Mountain Man’s Amelia Meath on vocals and Nick Sanborn, who holds the low-end in Megafaun, turning the knobs of the electronic music wonderland. While the new single “Play it Right” came out only 10 days ago, their first single “Hey Miami” dropped 3 months ago, which is actually 2 and half years in internet time. Also according to my expert calculations.

“Play it Right” is the second A side from the dual A side 12 inch single released this summer through Trekky Records. The new song started out as a Mountain Man song that Meath sent to Sanborn to be remixed before they started Sylvan Esso. That song started a project that has the new(ish) Durham, NC residents touring with Volcano Choir, playing Hopscotch, and saw them open for Beach House in Charlotte earlier this year. The duo play electronic pop with female vocals, which has become fairly common in today’s music landscape. The big difference here is that they simply do it better.
