Tuesday ‘tunes.
here are the new releases today (9/24) that you should be listening to (click album name for link):
CHVRCHES - The Bones of What You Believe [indie/electropop]
In my opinion, the best album of 2013. Grew off of blog-hype since early 2013 and have toured with huge names across England. This album is flawless from beginning to end.
RATING: A
Better Off - (I Think) I’m Leaving [alt-rock]
I may be a little bias, since these guys sleep on my floor when they pass through town. Nashville alt-rockers whose freshman album hits hard. I can’t get through the first two songs without screaming at the top of my lungs.
RATING: B
Kings of Leon - Mechanical Bull [southern rock]
The Kings are back in a big way. The group picks up right where they left off with another solid southern rock release. It’s especially refreshing to hear such good music from them considering the illness that lead singer Caleb Followill endured.
RATING: B
Deer Tick - Negativity [indie-rock]
Recommended by my friend David over at SceneSC, this album is everything you could want from an indie rock release.
RATING: B+
Drake - Nothing Was The Same [hip-hop/top 40]
Grab your tissues. Call your exes. Drink some wine. Drake is back. RATING: C+
Small Sanctions - Judicial Lovers (single) [local/indie-rock]
Got to throw a local band in here when I can. Fun fact: I used to play hockey with lead singer Grayson Venters back in the day. Now, he’s just one of those musicians that literally can’t put out anything but fantastic music. This is also FREE!
RATING: B+
The Saint Johns - Your Head and Your Heart (single) [folk/pop]
This is probably my favorite release this week. I’m one degree removed from being friends with this talented duo and that makes me really happy. It also makes me miss Nashville. Their debut EP comes out October 15, and will surely tug at your heart strings.
RATING: A
Passion Pit - Constant Conversations EP [indie-pop]
This is just a short release that features an alternate version of Constant Conversations that might be better than the original. Also some remixes. Lets face it, Passion Pit just rules.
RATING: N/A
discovery of the week:
Wildcat! Wildcat! - [self-titled]
First off, stellar name. NPR constantly introduces me to music that amazes. If you like Passion Pit, make sure to check these guys out.
