When I feel like taking the easy way out, I can always count on festival lineups for a plethora of new artists to feature on The Diagnosis. While it is exciting to see where these lineups overlap (re: OutKast: Gods of Summer 2014), it is even more exciting to see which matinee artists we’ve carried in rotation.
All artists on this Thursday’s Diagnosis will be from Coachella‘s lineup, including Blood Orange, whose latest album Cupid Deluxe has remained a star on our charts for weeks since its late-November release.
Many of the songs on Cupid Deluxe are on the soundtrack to the 80’s movie you wish your life could be. Transgressing between brass-laden, synth-y numbers and hip hop heavy hitters, Devonte Hynes maintains fluidity from track to track–which is not surprising considering his background in composing, writing and producing for other artists.
Hynes’ influences from master Prince, and even Frank Ocean, are evident on nearly every song. While Blood Orange is not the typical festival artist, Hynes is sure to be on other festival lineups to come.
To find out what other artists from the Coachella lineup will be featured, check The Diagnosis’ Facebook and be sure to tune in from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. est on 90.5 FM or at wusc.sc.edu.Â
