New York City band MisterWives have only been a band since late 2012, but they’re quickly making a name for themselves on the back of their debut EP Reflections. After being featured as the iTunes single of the week in January their title track skyrocketed to over 350,000 downloads in a week, boosting the bands popularity before their run at SXSW. Since the SXSW dates MisterWives has been on tour with The Mowgli’s, another band that’s quickly rising thanks to radio airplay, along with select dates sponsored by Sperry Top-Sider with Manchester Orchestra and Vacationer.
For each member of MisterWives this isn’t their first band, but it is a project that’s remained focused and streamlined since every thing started to click after some early apartment practices. The band is led vocally by Mandy Lee who spent her teenage years at a LaGuardia High School which has a department dedicated to vocals where she studied opera and songwriting. Lee, who is also the chief songwriter in the band, met the rest of the guys organically. Drummer Etienne Bowler worked at a restaurant near the restaurant where she worked and she ran into bass player Will Hehir while singing 80’s covers for a friends 18th birthday party. They’ve since added more members from that core that add to their infectious pop sound. A sound that’s earned them blog love all around the internet and hasn’t gone unnoticed by the corporate world with MTV noting them as a buzzworthy band. It’s easy to hear why. They’ve come a long way in a short amount of time.
