Columbia, SC isn’t a kind city for pop-punk bands, but it’s bands like A Brighter Life and Brigades who keep that bleeding heart pumping. And though there’s not a huge audience for it in the midlands, these bands know their music is good enough to compete for label ears, especially after the recent success of Brigades and Georgia brethren Veara, who come from a more supportive pop-punk scene in Augusta. “Under Bay Harbor” is the first song released from their upcoming album The Worst Kind of Luck, which is set for a late April release date. The band traveled to Maryland earlier this year to record the album at The Monster House with Mike Bridgette with production from Bridgette and CJ Wilson of Handguns. A Brighter Life has been a rotating cast of members around founders Byron Dooley (guitar) and Jordan Kirk (vocals), but they’ve managed to hold it together and get stronger, with this song being their strongest to date.
