April 1 brought the release of Cloud Nothings’ Here And Nowhere Else and as expected, it is angst-ridden and full of energy.
This album, particularly the first few tracks, feels like a crush. The moments of tension, longing, hope, embarrassment, frustration and pure desire are all interwoven. When you catch a smile from that crush, the melodies hit and carry you through to the next moment of frustration when you fail to act on an opportunity to strike up a conversation. Then the angry energy whirls in when someone else swoops in where you should have, and all you see is laughter and general flirting going on.
The angst, speed and power crescendo with each track, and by the end you feel downright exhausted–but in a good way. While this album is slightly less melodic than 2012’s Attack On Memory, it does not skimp on distortion and noise.
