The Avett Brothers play March 6/7/8 at The Township Auditorium in Columbia, SC
It was a beautiful St. Patrick’s Day celebration in 5 Points in 2008 when a terrible thunder-storm came out of nowhere, trash swirling through the air and police evacuating the streets. The police had no easy task, the streets were slammed with fans of that rising Carolina band who sang “Murder in the City.” Unfortunately that show never happened and The Avett Brothers seemed to blow up after that. It wasn’t until the State Fair in 2010 when they finally returned to Columbia.
That rained out show in 2008 might be a long-lost memory, but The Avett’s are paying it back big time with three consecutive nights at The Township Auditorium. The shows on March 5,6,7 2015 go up for pre-sale next Thursday, Nov. 13 from 10 AM – 10 PM with the password “gamecock”. The tickets will then go on sale the following day at all Ticketmaster outlets.
As of now the three Columbia, SC dates are the only dates in the area, with surrounding dates being in Florida and Texas. The central location should bring fans from surrounding cities like Charlotte, Augusta, Greenville, and Charleston to the Capital city and the renovated Township Auditorium.
The Avett Brothers formed outside of Charlotte, NC in the early 2000’s building a strong cult following before breaking out on a national scale with their 2009 major label début album I and Love and You which peaked at number 16 on the Billboard album charts.
