On the new Devereaux album Heyward Sims does an incredible job of seamlessly mixing analog and electronic sounds into hooky pop songs. The opening track “Pineapple Flex” showcases both Sim’s guitar work and his sense of composition. With the video for “Pineapple Flex” seen here Sim’s makes a splash before the chase begins. Suspense and a deadly manhunt drive the video as the hunt is on for the vixen assassin who is after Sims. It doesn’t turn out so well, unless being a pineapple is heaven.
The video was beautifully shot in downtown Columbia in the old Arcade Mall which now houses offices, studios, and businesses. The Arcade Mall, constructed in 1912, was Columbia’s first indoor shopping center. The Renaissance Revival architectural style turned out as a perfect setting for the video as director Taylor Glazier took full advantage with each shot towards the end of the video.
The video features several faces that Columbia locals may recognize including Joye White, Dae Dorsett, Travis Bailey, Thomas Hammond, and Heyward Sims.
