The Boat Show November 22
There’s been a lot of chatter out of Charleston lately about Johnny Delaware’s new band and how great they sound. Now you’ll have a chance to see them, first hand, on a boat, in the Charleston harbor with Mark Bryan and South Street.
This year’s Boat Show follows a sold out inaugural run which featured both Brave Baby and Susto. The 1770 Records event serves as the record labels main fundraiser to help continue educating while entertaining. The student run record label gives students the opportunity to get hands on experience while artists gain exposure within the college scene.
Johnny DelawareÂ
A man with a story and a smooth crooning voice dropped from the skies, Johnny Delaware arrived in Charleston after a stint in Austin, TX. The South Dakota native made himself at home in Charleston since his arrival, engraining himself in the music scene there. Delaware’s debut album takes you on a pleasant ride through the dusty Southwest as his music dives deep into your mind, making you feel the nostalgia of past love and experiences. That’s what most great songs do. With every listen to Secret Wave I wonder how he’s not über famous.
Mark Bryan
I’ve never meet Mark Bryan, but he’s meant more to me and this website than he realizes. Growing up his band Hootie and the Blowfish was at the pinnacle of SC music, showing future bands how to do it the right way by having pride from where they were from and bringing along other SC bands with them. Now he’s still working to better the scene whether it’s working through various channels at College of Charleston or through Chucktown Music Group, he proves his love for the Lowcountry and South Carolina by making a difference. Bryan recently released an uplifting video for his song “Only Love Can Satisfy” as well as playing dates with Occasional Milkshake, most shows in support of veteran band Blue Dogs.
South Street
Charleston’s South Street get the party started with their unique mixture of funk, reggae, and rock. Their latest single “Universal” gives a glimpse into the bands energy and melting pot of musical influences.
