Australian psychedelic, fuzzy glam-rockers Pond are the featured artist for this week’s Diagnosis.
If you like Tame Impala, Foxygen, or MGMT, you’ll love Pond. In fact, the band was started by Nick Allbrook and Jay Watson–guitarist and drummer, respectively, from Tame Impala’s touring group.
Pond’s Man It Feels Like Space Again was released in the U.S. Jan. 26 on Caroline Records and it goes straight to your core. This is the kind of music you have to listen to through your headphones (or on the radio, of course) and NOT computer speakers. If it’s psychedelic, you’ve got to let it encompass you and carry you away.
Pond’s energy is fire-y and consistent, and each song feels like a true performance…one can only imagine the antics of a live show. This album decrescendos from moments of near-combustion to dizzy space-shifting slow jams, then crescendos back up to apocalyptic teasing. It’s a refreshing journey in 45 minutes.
To hear Pond, tune in to the Diagnosis on Thursday at 6 p.m. on WUSC 90.5 FM or at wusc.sc.edu.
