Last summer Charleston based record label Hearts & Plugs hosted a summer shindig for the ages, not only giving away free ice cream–which makes any event a winner–but also showcasing the labels full roster of bands at the time. This spring the Hearts & Plugs crew is back at it in partnership with Revival Entertainment Company and Redux Contemporary Art Center to present some of the labels heavy hitters, and the labels new signees.
These five shows are a true community effort with the support from not only the label, entertainment company, and venue, but also Awendaw Green, The Fix.fm, and Pop Up Charleston. Oh yeah, us here at SceneSC as well. We’ll be previewing and covering each event week by week.
Weeks four and five of the event featuring new Hearts & Plugs signees Susto, Johnny Delaware, and Hermit’s Victory deserve a gold star, as each mark a release show. Holy City troubadours Susto and Johnny Delaware have a split 7 inch EP in the works, with the first album from Hermit’s Victory coming out April 15. Hermit’s Victory is the stage name of Tyler Bertges, who we featured on our 2014 sampler. That Hermit’s Victory album is one of our most anticipated of the year – an ambient album with a hushed lounge singer vibe that sneaks deep into your psyche.
Update: Susto and Johnny Delaware are releasing a split 7 inch together, but it looks like that release will be delayed just a little bit, so not the April 8 show. The good news is there are still two for sure releases–the Hermit’s Victory release and Infinitikiss (Nick Jenkins) greatest hits album tentatively titled First, Last, Best.
Mysteriously missing from the lineup is Hearts & Plugs banner act Brave Baby who look to release their sophomore album this year. One can only suspect they’ve got something big in the works as they’ve slowly, but surely become one of Charleston’s best drawing pop acts.
Tickets for each event are $7 in Advance, $8 at the Door, or you can buy a 5 Show Bundle for $30.
