With their collaborative album due out March 31 via Bundick’s label Company Records, Chaz Bundick Meets The Mattson 2 roll into New Brookland Tavern April 12 with special guest Madeline Kenney. This will be the Columbia native and Toro y Moi founder’s first return to the New Brookland Tavern stage in nearly five years. Toro y Moi’s last visits have been at both Music Farm and the Columbia Museum of Art.
The collaborative album with Southern California pysch/jazz duo The Mattson 2 mixes both of their stylings well, with the lead single weighing more heavily on Bundick’s signature sounds. “Star Stuff” is silky and warped carrying an early 70’s West Coast feel. The Mattson 2 last played Columbia in September 2014 at Bluetile Skateshop.
Opening the show is Madeline Kenney, who also calls Bundick’s label Company Records home. The Oakland via Seattle songwriter recorded her latest EP “Signals” in Bundick’s studio, creating four pop songs both hazy and ambient, yet still with a driving groove throughout.
