The opening three chords in Late Bloomer’s new single “Heaven” sound comfortably familiar, but just unplaceable enough to keep your mind searching for a match. Those three chords circle and pound away through the chorus which buries in your head with just one listen. “If I make it I make it to heaven/does it really matter?” is sung like a mantra. In the final chorus it’s shouted channeling a little Dave Grohl with the full throat snarl “If I crawl on the ceiling.” They perfected the keep it simple aspect of this song by not overcooking it and nailing the bridge and solo that breaks up the song enough to make you yearn for the hook again. And then the piano bouncing in the final chorus is another perfect touch buried deep in the mix.
