On June 28, 2025, the former Hunter-Gatherer building at 900 S. Main St. in Columbia, South Carolina, was taken down as a part of the area’s redevelopment. In addition to the building’s local relevance as a cultural hub, it was also the site of the “I Love My Friends” mural honoring the late musician Aaron Graves.
In the weeks leading up to the building’s demolition, a cast of more than 20 musical acts from across South Carolina paid tribute to the site by performing in front of the mural. Attempting to underscore the value of local gathering spaces, these sessions exemplify a community reflecting on itself. Taking stock of what it finds to be important; homegrown music, public art, local breweries and cuisine in combination with places where friends and neighbors can gather to be in communion with one another. This video series aims to celebrate these things both before and after they are gone.
