Just like The Biebs, Jasmine Van den Bogaerde’s became a YouTube sensation at a young age. Her cover of Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love” took off to a cool 7 million views, boosting her young career and putting her on the UK pop charts at just 13 years old.
When it comes to her first eponymous album, I’m on Jasmine Van den Bogaerde’s aka Birdy’s side. The album includes covers of a host of indie favorites including The xx, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver, The National, Phoenix, The Naked and Famous, and James Taylor. Additionally they are beautiful adaptations of the songs. The men behind the songs are also the men that helped Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkey’s on their way.
When it comes down to it, Birdy did little more than sing on this album and occasionally provide piano. Hopefully she at least chose each song, but there is really no way to know that.
Let’s see if she can fly. This album is of little importance other than to spread her name. It worked. She’s young and talented and has good taste in music judging from the songs she’s covered. We know that she can play piano, so let’s see what’s she’s got.
