Recently Joshua Bailey from The Gray Haven Project contacted The Lion in Winter about using their song “Valley” for a video they were making to raise awareness of their non-profit organization. The Gray Haven Project is a relatively new non-profit start-up created to raise awareness of human trafficking and aid human trafficking victims, a problem that affects over 27 million people worldwide. With only two years under their belt, Gray Haven is working hard to grow and spread their cause.
In addition to creating awareness through giving out information at shows like the one in Columbia and on Warped Tour, Gray Haven works with local law enforcement and the FBI in their home area of Metro Richmond, Virginia as a source of contact for victims services. While they are making an impact in their home state of Virginia, they are also looking to grow nationwide. That’s why the show in Columbia, SC is so important to help raise funds for victims services, and learn what we can do in our own community to stop trafficking of all kinds.
When I emailed with founder Josh Bailey, I was skeptical of Gray Haven. I wanted to trust them more and the information just wasn’t out there for me to do that yet. Over the last 10 years the amount of non-profit companies in America has grown to over 1 million. With so many out there, there are some that do try to take advantage of people. We’ve seen the stories on the news of non-profit organizations that take advantage of natural disasters, which makes us all skeptical of who we give our money to. Bailey’s response couldn’t have been more kind and was exactly the information I was looking for. He reassured me that the money made from the show Sunday was going to the service side and explained more in-depth about what they do to help trafficking victims. I just hope he didn’t get car sick, he wrote the entire email while riding on tour with Bayside spreading the Gray Haven message.
