This Saturday brings Atlanta-based Gringo Star to Columbia for a jam-packed show at New Brookland Tavern. In addition, the show features three exceptional Carolina acts: Say Brother, Junior Astronomers and Dear Blanca.
Although they’ve got a pun for a name, Gringo Star is serious about playing unadulterated rock-n-roll. Way back in 2011, the group received national attention via NPR for the track “Shadow” from their sophomore album Count Yer Lucky Stars. They’ve got a ragged, retro sound reminiscent of The Films, a band helmed by Michael Trent of Shovels & Rope.
Columbia favorites Say Brother are sure to draw a big crowd based on a reputation for raucousness that precedes them.
Just before embarking on a 10-city tour with The Weeks, Junior Astronomers drop in from the Queen City with plenty of loud, in-your-face material. Dear Blanca are fairly new to the scene, but they’ll be releasing an LP in February via label/collective Post-Echo.
Every band on this bill will knock your socks off, so bring a couple of extra pairs.
