One of the goals of Scene SC is not only to introduce readers to new music, but also to musicians that paved the way for the musicians of today. I’m guessing that if you are younger than the 25-34 demographic you probably aren’t familiar with Bill Mallonnee and if you are you are pretty music savvy.
In 2006 Paste magazine ranked Athens native Bill Mallonnee number 65 on their list of “The Greatest Living Songwriters.” His 25 albums have somehow flown somewhat under the radar outside of the music community. He was voted the 65th best living songwriter by other writers and artists and the above song features Emmylou Harris. Over the years he has performed with artists ranging from R.E.M. to Pedro the Lion, Sufjan Stevens, Dwight Yokum and SC’s Edwin McCain.
Prior to 2002 Bill Mallonnee played with Vigilantes of Love, who he still plays with occasionally. His catalogue of songs and albums is extensive and can be viewed on the Vigilantes of Love website.  Over Mallonnee’s career he has released 25 albums in addition to an EP series called the Works Progress Administration which includes 40-50 songs every year.
