Booking shows is a tough business. When you get down to it, you are booking 4 bands and dealing with the schedules of about 20 people. What ends up happening a fair amount of the time is that you have two bands that fit well together and maybe one or two that don’t fall into the same genre. Luckily, the show Sunday pulls four bands that all fans can enjoy.

Young go-getters The Devil and The Lion are in the process of doing indie things such as growing half-beards, smoking cigs(American Spirits), wearing tight pants, buying macbooks, drinking local free-trade coffee, American Apparel, facebook, riding bikes and rebelling against corporate America. In the midst of doing all (sarcasm) of these things they are also a damn good band. Since December, frontman Grayson Venters has had a steady mix of TD&TL shows mixed with solo shows. If you follow both of his projects you’ll notice his gift for lyrical rhythm and hear a difference in the songs that become TD&TL songs and what works its way into his solo catalog. Full band, Graysons voice becomes more of a tool to drive emotion home, often reaching to its max screaming into the listener’s ear demanding your attention.

Last year I brought three of my friends that had never heard or seen The Devil and The Lion to hear them at 5 Points Pub. What stood out to them was the emotion they brought to the stage as a band and their lyrics. The song that stuck in their head was “Our Secrets Underneath.” A lyrical gem.

Also note that this Sunday will be guitarist Kerry Breen’s final show with The Devil and The Lion. It could be bassists Tyler Morris last show with the band also as he is moving to Austin, Texas in the coming months.

Young go-getters the Kill Anties are in the process of doing indie things such as growing half beards, smoking cigs(American Spirits), wearing tight pants, buying macbooks, drinking local free-trade coffee, American Apparel, facebook, riding bikes and rebelling against corporate America. Actually, I’m not sure if they are old enough to grow beards, but they make up for this by writing better songs than most bands 10 years their senior. I’m sure they have had this show date circled on their calendar for awhile as a chance to show people what they are made of and show us some of those new songs that they have been recording. The word on the street is that they might have shirts for sale and some samplers at the show. Bands like the Kill Anties are the reason that Scene SC exists.

Young go-getters Marry a Thief are in the process of doing indie things such as growing half beards, smoking cigs(American Spirits), wearing tight pants, buying macbooks, drinking local free-trade coffee, American Apparel, facebook, riding bikes and rebelling against corporate America. At the same time as being Indie Rock Gods they are also in preparation to go into the studio to record a brand spankin’ new CD. While in the process of writing and polishing off the demos for the new album they are also integrating some new members to the band. Marry a Thief is becoming like the New York Yankees of Columbia bands introducing new members Justin Register and Josh McClary along with part time members Aaron Robertson and Cayla Fralick. The end product is yet to be seen, but from the shows they have played so far the expirement seems to be positive. It seems they have the attention of MTV and various other media, so hopefully the new record will capatilize on all of this.
