SceneSC contributor Cameron Powell had a blast at Savannah Stopover last year. Not only did he perform with his former band, but he got mixed up with some free moonshine in the hospitality tent. We all know music journalist and liquor are a fiery mix, but a musician/journalist mixed with free corn liquor is a force to be reckoned with. Needless to say, Cam had a blast, and his coverage was thoroughly entertaining.
This year Savannah Stopover is back with a host of solid up and coming bands in their initial lineup release. On first glance it’s a lot of bands we’ve been covering over the years and are huge fans of. Miniature Tigers, Speedy Ortiz, The Weeks, Caitlin Rose, River Whyless, The Whiskey Gentry are all excellent reasons to attend, but just like Hopscotch in Raleigh, Savannah Stopover is a playground for music discovery. For me at least, I love festivals like this where I can see bands I haven’t heard of and find something new.
Last years festival featured over 100 bands with stages spread across the city. With this lineup Savannah Stopover is off to a huge start, with 4 months left to go, and plenty of bands left to announce. Tickets are on sale now at the ticket link below.
