It Looks Sad play The Courtroom in Rock Hill, SC 2/13/14 with Small Sanctions//Junior Astronomers//Mr. Gold
Have you ever seen that episode of Seinfeld where Kramer takes a test drive in a Saab 900 with the salesman and they push the car as far as automobiley possible, eventually running out of gas, but not until they go through Kramers daily routine and more? It was incredibly impressive how far they made it with the gas light on. Now, I’m not sure any of the members of It Looks Sad have seen that episode, but I hope they have. It Looks Sad are a Saab of a band, classy top notch dudes, although they are not Swedish they have been running a very long time on the fuel of one recorded song, “Raccoon.” Go green or go home right?
“Raccoon” is built on grooving drums and bass and effervescent guitars paired with casually emotional lyrics. More statements than over the top yelping. Their main music influences listed below are all modern, but it’s hard to deny the 80’s influence of a band like The Cure. But, if we start playing that game the road is a long one.
It Looks Sad has a new 6 song EP in the works, so it’s only a matter of time before they refill the tank with that premium shit.
1) Describe your music for those who aren’t familiar.
Indie rock? Something along those lines.
2) Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
Attack In Black, Real Estate, Bombay Bicycle Club, Yuck, and others probably. Also Cannibal Corpse.
Non-musical influences: Summer, Fall, Winter (not Spring), pizza, Chipotle, box wine, and 40s.
3) What are some of your favorite parts about the music scene that you come out of? What are some things that you wish you could change about the music scene?
We have a lot of venues that really do a lot to support local bands, and we feel like the Charlotte scene is really growing and headed in a great direction as more and more talented bands sprout up.
Something we might change is more free beer and/or box wine at gigs.
4) How did your band get started?
Back when we were It Looks Sad, That’s Why I Said It’s You it was Jimmy, Justin, Josh, and Vince. They played around Charlotte like this for like 9 months until Vince left the band and Garrett joined. Now we’re just It Looks Sad. but Facebook won’t let us change our name from the agonizingly long one.
5) What are you most excited about for the future of your band?
We are really excited about touring a lot this year. We are equally excited about releasing our 6-song EP full of new stuff. Past that, we’re looking forward to the 2020 Olympics in Japan when Akira kills everybody.
6) If you could change one thing about the music industry what would it be?
Better radio stations, or at least more access to good ones would be sweet.
7) Who are some of your favorite South Carolina or Regional bands to play with? What band do you think your fans should check out?
We haven’t played with All Get Out but they rock and we’d love to play with them. Heyrocco was awesome when we played with them at the Milestone in Charlotte.
As far as regional bands, our bbyz in Junior Astronomers are exquisite.
Here’s a list of other NC bands to listen to:
oddczar, Borrowed Arts, Tyler Brown, Serfs, Old Soles, Replicas, Swell Friends, Museum Mouth, HRVRD, and Wretched. Also others.
8) What is your bands Spirit Animal?
Sharkeisha.
