Last week, all of the Diagnosis’ featured artists were from weekend two of George, Washington’s Sasquatch! Music Festival. Working backwards, this Thursday’s artists are from weekend one, which takes place Memorial Day weekend.
Shakey Graves Alejandro Rose-Garcia, the musician behind this one-man-band, is mind-bogglingly talented. Underneath his howling, sexy vocals are a suitcase kick drum with a snare and tambourine attached, and his hollow body guitar. His songs maintain a captivating storyline from start to finish, and his hometown of Austin, T.X. even named February 9 Shakey Graves Day. For an even deeper appreciation of his talents, watch the Audiotree Live sessions.
Chet Faker Nicholas James Murphy, or Chet Faker, is an Australian electronic artist. Although he has been signed in the States since 2012, his debut full length is due April 2014. Clearly one with a sense of humor, Chet Faker has a crisp, clean sound and joins the wave of Australians dominating right now.
Cloud Control Also out of Australia, Cloud Control are a camp of mates that met in high school. They ask fans to “forget who you are and come get lost with some friends, if you sing and dance a little it will make you feel like everything is going to be OK,” which is not hard to do when chilling out to a few of their tracks. Pure, pop-influenced indie rock.
To find out who the final two featured artists are and to hear from Shakey Graves, Chet Faker, and Cloud Control, tune in to the Diagnosis Thursday 12 p.m.-2 p.m. on WUSC 90.5 FM or online at wusc.sc.edu.
