If I could use one word to describe this week’s featured artists, it would be “fresh.” All five have some unique quality or clean tone, and it’s going to be lovely and light.
RY X— Ry Cuming is an Australian singer/songwriter with a pure, ethereal sound. His four-song EP Berlin will leave you satisfied with the taste of delicacy while simultaneously wanting more.
Clean Bandit–Spotify says it best, Clean Bandit are the “chamber music version of house music.” This six-piece U.K. crew blends strings and classic sounds with wholesome female vocals and electronic rhythms.
Broadheds–Does it get any more summer-y and sunny than ska and reggae? No, it does not. Broadheds hit the balance of the two genres as others before have, including a punk tinge, but this quartet makes the genre blend far more approachable. Front man Peter Walker has a boyish tone of voice, which nicely juxtaposes the purposeful horn instrumentation.
Tune in to the Diagnosis Thursday 12 p.m.-2 p.m. on 90.5 FM in Columbia or on wusc.sc.edu for the rest of my five featured artists.
