In late 2012 a new trio emerged on the Columbia music scene with a performance at the Free Times Music Crawl and a new self titled album. The trio formed from the ashes of Death Becomes Even the Maiden, who had gone silent for some time after the departure of drummer Chris Powell to focus on his project The Fishing Journal. Now Parlour Tricks are back with a repackaged version of their self titled debut album out June 24 on South Carolina label Post Echo. The June 24 release will feature Medals on 12″ vinyl available in gold, silver, and bronze colors via the Post-Echo music store. Medals holds two additional songs to the original release, along with a new track order and artwork.
While the band considered the rebranding necessary, the differences between the two projects feels like splitting hairs. Heyward Sims signature finger tapping and mathy guitar playing stays easily identifiable along with Eric Greenwood’s kinetic bass lines and vocals. With the name change the band traded some feedback and screams for more melody, but stay aggressive throughout the album. And the screams aren’t gone all together, they left some for DBETM fans.
This release follows the recent announcement of the new Deveraux album Pineapple Flex, Sim’s project where he explores his more electronic side. That album is due out on Post Echo in September.
