Get Social with FFG
This past weekend Charleston’s own Shovels and Rope made their début on the main stage at Newport Folk Festival playing alongside Jack White and Fall for Greenville veterans Deer Tick. For any folk artist this a huge notch in the belt of a career accomplishment. Just down the coast Old 97’s were debuting new songs at XPN music fest in Philadelphia, one of America’s most influential radio stations and home to the popular World Cafe radio show. Old 97’s just released their ninth studio album titled Most Messed Up in June. Shovels and Rope are on the verge of releasing their second album titled Swimmin’ Time which they’ll have in tow at this years Fall for Greenville festival. Not only is this years Fall for Greenville lineup stellar, but it’s also as relevant as it’s ever been.
In addition to this years headliners FFG again brings in both the up and coming talent and some of South Carolina’s best local talent. Birmingham, AL band St. Paul and The Broken Bones are well on their way, their song “Call Me” is already well-played on radio stations across the US and a 7 piece soul band built to put a charge in a festival crowd. Desert Noises, Roadkill Ghost Choir, American Aquarium, and Matrimony are all bands that have surpassed the regional level and are starting to make noise nation wide. Then turn to your eyes to the young South Carolina based bands like Brave Baby, The Dunder Chiefs, Stagbriar, Volcanoes in the Kitchen, Susto, and Jordan Igoe, six artists on the rise with next level talent. Local in location only, these bands and others on the lineup showcase the homegrown talent this state owns. Look at it this way, Shovels and Rope was at the same level as these locals only a couple of years ago, now they’re top of the bill and America’s darling shining a beautiful light on Charleston, SC.
We’ll be highlighting more artists leading up to the festival so stay on the lookout for our artist features.
