RIYL: Indie Adult Contemporary
Keath Mead has only been on the national music scene for about a month now, but he’s already received plenty of comparisons to throwback 70’s acts. He is a chill dude, with flowing locks popular in the 60’s and 70’s. He’s got a peaceful vibe and he plays a nice Les Paul popular in the era. As much as his music might be reflective of his classic influences, from the two songs heard so far it’s just as modern with its vibe. I’d consider it more of a west coast, with hazy synths drifting through the background. No big loud drums, no cheesy synth riffs, no squealing guitar solos, Mead plays it smooth throughout with the guidance of South Carolina native and Toro y Moi frontman Chaz Bundick.
This spring Mead heads to SXSW for the first time for at least one showcase with fellow Carpark teammates Cloud Nothings, before heading out for a run of dates with Toro y Moi as they hit the road in support of their upcoming album. For the first time Columbia has a proper venue to host the show with the opening last fall of Music Farm Columbia. This show will be Mead’s first appearance at the venue since he played there at the venues grand opening featuring headliner Washed Out, a band which features two of Mead’s band mates.
