Yes, you read that right. This week’s Diagnosis features Leighton Meester–the actress most known for her portrayal of the Queen of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Blair Waldorf, on Gossip Girl.
While Meester gave the world a taste of her musical chops with a guest appearance on Cobra Starship’s 2009 smash “Good Girls Go Bad,” it wasn’t until October 2014 that she followed up with her debut album Heartstrings.Â
I’ll admit when I first saw Meester had recorded an album, I expected dance-pop tunes akin to Spotify’s related artists Demi Lovato, Hilary Duff, Selena Gomez and the like. But truly, she shouldn’t even be compared to the Disney pop princesses. In fact, her only connection to them is having started her career as an actress.
Heartstrings is delightful and sweet, but still begs to be taken seriously. It’s so nice I listened twice! While it’s unclear whether Meester writes her own music, she’s got the feminine singer/songwriter thing down. Pour some iced tea, slice up some strawberries and take to the windowsill with your favorite book and Heartstrings…
