Arts and Draughts returns to the Columbia Museum of Art Friday, May 1 with a full lineup of music fitting for a Friday evening of creatives at an art museum.
Headlining the night is Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba from Carborro, NC. Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba play fiery West African dance music pulling from all the influences in that tradition and mixing them with the personal and local styles of the musicians in the group. With music based on Manding tradition, the adventurous songs with lyrics in Manding, Wolof, and English, Kaira Ba tell stories of modern and ancient West Africa.
Warming up the crowd before those West African stylings will be Debbie and the Skanks with their spirited brand of rock n roll. We’ve seen the formula before, but Debbie and the Skanks find a way to make it new again with on stage charisma. Founded by guitarist Joe Roberts in 2014 and led live by Deborah Adedokun, the band thrives on stage with fast and gritty guitar playing and a rhythm section that sinks into your bones. Deborah steals the show live, just like she steals rooms when she walks in the door, her electric personality is who she is and thrives in front of a crowd.
Opening the night will be The Knee Jerks and Milton Hall with music starting at 7. The featured beers this time around will come from Brewery 85, with food from Bone-In Artisan Barbecue on Wheels, The Wurst Wagen, and The Belgian Waffle Truck.
