Alarm Drum play New Brookland Tavern Saturday September 19 with The Ugly Chords, MyBrother MySister, and Mr. Rosewater.Â
What’s the first album you remember loving?
Andrew: Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over the Sea was probably the record that got me into indie rock. It’s the first album that I remember being completely obsessed with.
Ian: I never really seriously listened to music until I heard Dark Side of the Moon back when I was like 11. Andrew showed me Brain Damage and it kinda blew my mind.
Seth: Probably Californication by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. That album definitely got me started. I was really drawn to the way Flea played the bass. I vibed with it to say the least.
You just finished your new EP, are you already working on your next release?
Andrew: It’s hard for us to stop writing. I think from almost the day after we released our EP, we had plans for our next release. Plus there are songs that didn’t make the cut for Colorsick that we want to continue working on.
What was the first local band you were a fan of?
Andrew: I remember my first time seeing Dear Blanca I was really impressed. I feel like there’s a very tangible emotion in their music that I can connect with.
Ian: The first local band that I actually enjoyed seeing live was Soensoes. I’d been going to New Brookland a lot but nothing really stuck with me until I saw their show. But I’d say ET Anderson because I keep up with them.
What’s the most recent album you bought or have been listening to lately?
Andrew: For the past couple days I’ve been listening to Boredoms, this great Japanese psych/noise band, specifically their album Super Ae. That along with Deerhunter and Bjork. On a local level, I’ve been jamming to the new Sick EP that just got released.
Seth: Lonerism by Tame Impala. It’s literally all I’ve been listening to for the past couple of weeks. It’s a hell of an album. I also really enjoyed Currents.
Ian: I’ve been listening to Bowery Electric’s self titled. It’s this drone stuff that’s been putting me to sleep every night. And another self titled, Bedhead, which is really depressing and relaxing.
Since y’all go to a lot of shows, who are some of the best live bands you’ve seen in the last year?
Andrew: Ian and I saw Swans in February at the Cat’s Cradle up in NC, probably the best experience I’ve had with live music. Their music is pummeling.
Ian: I went to that show when I was sick as hell with a fever, and the walls of noise just killed me. But it was amazing because the brutality of their music lends itself to pain, especially when it’s hot and sweaty. That night I heard about how Swans used to turn the AC off at their concerts, so I think I got to experience something that was authentic.
AMAZING!!!!
