Ahh freshman move-in day. You arrive awkwardly with your parents to meet your undoubtedly odd roommate and move into a space smaller than you have ever been before. After unpacking your parents want to take you to eat, but you are more concerned with getting them out so you can score some (illegally obtained) beer and maybe meet some ladies/dudes. Its the same story every year, but this year New Brookland is hoping to make freshman move-in at USC a little more exciting. I won’t give away too much, as here is the info straight off the Facebook event, which would should definitely RSVP to.
This is obviously a cause we will support on this website, so expect to see more as we get closer to the date!
“We’re organizing Columbia bands and promoters in an effort to blanket the USC campus on the official move-in day (Aug. 15) when thousands of new and returning students flock to the campus area. We’ll have a comprehensive calendar of upcoming concerts at any and all venues willing to participate.
We’ll be asking at least ONE representative of each band/venue who has an upcoming show booked to participate in handing out these calendars around campus on that Saturday. We’ll get together to meet and distribute the calendars among the participants around noon that day. We’d also be happy to have the help of any other volunteers.
We should easily have about 50 people involved if everyone is committed and pulls their weight. You don’t need to be there the entire day, just a little of your time. Let’s get these kids coming to shows early on before they’ve spent all their money on Everclear!
If you have a show booked that is not at New Brookland after August 15 please send that information in a message. The deadline to be included is August 5 which is quickly approaching!
