SHARKWEEK Clemson
Clemson’s Sharkweek, an annual week of music events and activities in support of student run radio station WSBF FM comes to a close Friday and Saturday with two feature concerts, the first headlined by Columbia band Dear Blanca and Saturday by Charleston’s Stop Light Observations.
Stop Light Observations are currently touring in support of their new album Toogoodoo, an album where they tracked everything live in a 200-year-old house called Toogoodoo outside of their hometown of Charleston. The album’s been received warmly so far, being featured on national outlets like Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco and PBS to Impose, PopMatters and hometown outlet Garden & Gun.
Make a trip out to the Botanical Gardens at 9:30 PM to hear folk rock tunes from:

Loaded Up and Truckin
Dr. Dog//Nikki Lane//Floating Action at Oskar Blues REEB Ranch
Loaded Up and Truckin hosted by Oskar Blues Brewery just over the South Carolina border at Oskar Blues REEB Ranch brings together eighteen regional food trucks along with an amazing lineup of music. This year Dr. Dog headline the event along with semi locals Floating Action and Nikki Lane…the place they both call home is just down the road you know. Floating Action and Dr. Dog music pairs well together, both rich indie rock bands, while Nikki Lane sticks out, but in a good way. The Greenville area native is touring on her new album Highway Queen and her classic country sound. All acts pair well with a Dale’s Pale Ale, everything does. Camping is encouraged because those beers work.

Junior Astronomers with Dempsey//Release the Dog at New Brookland Tavern
Charlotte band Junior Astronomers new album Body Language releases on June 9th, but the hype has been building over the last couple of weeks as they’ve released several new tracks from the album. I wouldn’t say the new album shows growth, but it does show some different sides of JA as it took years to develop. So, change over time more than growth, helped along by the fact they recorded with a new team around them in producer Mike Pepe (Taking Back Sunday, Modern Chemistry) and recorded at Mitch Easter’s Fidelitorium Recordings (Dinosaur Jr., Wilco, Ben Folds Five), before having Dan Millice (A$AP Rocky, Townes Van Zandt) at Engine Room Audio add the final mastering touches. In all, they brought something new out of the band that we haven’t heard in the past 8 years. Here those new songs and some classics Friday at New Brookland Tavern.ÂÂ

ANDREW MCMAHON IN THE WILDERNESS with ATLAS GENIUS, NIGHT RIOTS
Andrew McMahon’s proven in the past projects like Something Corporate and Jack’s Mannequin, along with his first solo album that he can write both excellent pop songs and more intimate reflective songs with just him and his piano. Something got lost on his latest album though, and he missed the mark overall. Still, seeing him live is always worth it. He plays Music Farm Monday evening joined by opening acts Atlas Genius and Night Riots.
