With the release of Toro Y Moi’s new single and video for “Freelance” the band also announces the release of their new album ‘Outer Peace,’ out January 18th in advance of their fall tour.
The new album was written and recorded in the Bay Area after Chaz Bear spent a year in Portland. The album is written much from the point of view of the contrast of these two cultures.
“This record is a response to how disposable culture has become and how it affects creativity,” Bear says via press release. “While listening, you might pay attention or ignore — either way that’s ok, this is music for a creative mind.”
The song is another turn for the ever evolving Toro Y Moi frontman Chaz Bear. The new single mixes both house and funk for a heavy beat punctuated by Bear’s vocals and lyrics that carry the song. The video created by collaborator Harry Israelson, shows the production process of Bear while existing in the same world as the album artwork.
